Here you can see what is left of Mission Creek, a series of tubes and gates leading into what we now call Mission Creek, a waterway lined with stacked rocks. Back in the 19th century, this was a marshy estuary, and the old Mission Creek was a navigable stream that flowed west and then somewhat south to 16th St. If you take the pathway that goes under highway 280 you will be able to see another spot where culverts lead into the modern Mission Creek. Someone has painted the surrounding cement slopes with Egyptian style yellow and red imagery on a blue ground, with text: "Keep it Blue".
